After high school, I moved to the San Francisco bay area to attend Stanford University (Go Cardinal!) where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Upon completion of my undergraduate education I moved across the bay to attend graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley where I studied under the guidance of Prof. Kenneth N. Raymond. After completing my Ph.D. at U.C. Berkeley, I moved to Boston, to perform postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Stephen J. Lippard at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After about two and a half years in Boston I moved to my present position at the University of California, San Diego (Go Tritons!). Our research and teaching at UCSD has been recognized with an NSF CAREER award and a Cottrell Scholar Award from the Research Corporation. As of July 1, 2007, I was promoted to the position of Associate Professor. Click here for a copy of my current CV.
Personal History
Seth M. Cohen was born in 1972 in Los Angeles, CA. I was raised in the San Fernando Valley. After college, graduate school, and a postdoc, I married Sandra Rodriguez-Cruz in 2001. We have been living in San Diego since 2001. In June of 2005 I became the proud father of a bouncing baby girl, Sabrina (see pictures below). My hobbies include recreational sports, occasional rollerblading, local and national politics, and classic cars. In terms of local politics, I am presently a member of the San Marcos Planning Commission. In terms of classic cars, I own a 1973 Mustang convertible and 2002 PT Cruiser (wanna-be classic car).
